Know Thyself
“To know thyself is the beginning of wisdom.” - Socrates
This quote is a good reminder to people pleasers in recovery everywhere.
In order to create better connections with the people around us, we first need to be capable of knowing who WE are inherently. How we feel what we want and what we hold most dear and important in our lives.
❤️ If we don't know how to identify what we're feeling in the moment, we won't be able to help others understand what we are going through, and can blast right past expressing our hurt to being angry in the moment.
❤️ If we don't know what we truly want or need out of life, we might not be able to fully participate or truly compromise with our partners and friends (P.S. Always giving in to what others want isn't compromise)
❤️ If we don't know our own values, we might abandon them easily and then be unhappy and lose ourselves in our relationships.
So how does one begin to "know thyself"?
Journaling, meditation, and finding time to be alone and calm with your thoughts are all great ways to support building your own personal understanding, and yet people pleasers are often so overwhelmed & busy that consistently making time for themselves is something they put off until "later".
Getting connected with a coach is another way to start digging in and learning what makes you tick. It can be the difference between hiking alone off trail in the woods, and bringing a friend along who is equipped with both a map and a compass so YOU can choose and easily find your destination.
As a certified and credentialed coach, I've been trained to support your journey as you find the path to being YOU, and I LOVE a good hike in the woods. So if you would like to see if we could be good travel partners, email me for a free consultation jennifer@dailychoices.life.
