Permission Granted
I woke up today feeling a bit flat, a bit off, and not really ready to take on the world. There are "reasons" why I might be feeling this way right now, AND as a Life Coach, I felt compelled to speak to this for anyone else who might have woken up today in this frame of mind.
Despite how social media tries to convince us otherwise, no one's life is perfectly happy and joyful every moment of every day. We all have moments where feelings rise up that we aren't expecting, or that we "don't have time for".
I'm sure you've all heard the saying by Carl Jung, "What we resist, persists". So whenever we can, it is a good idea to figure out a way for us to put some attention towards what is making us feel the way we feel. Sometimes just simply acknowledging why we are low can help us release the emotions and increase our energy.
What do I mean by that?
The iPEC COR.E Energy program that was designed by Bruce D. Schneider, speaks to the idea of levels of energy that we are experiencing at any given moment. When we are feeling low, it is likely because something is weighing on us in one of these areas (6 COR.E Influencers). Note: I'm not quoting directly but putting a wee bit of my own spin on the explanations.
Spiritual - How connected do we feel to our purpose, or our values, and the vision for where we are going in our lives?
Mental - What is affecting your level of concentration, focus, memory or clarity?
Emotional - When we are aware of our emotions, can express how we are feeling, and are able to control how we speak to/work through them appropriately (instead of exploding at people).
Physical - How is our health? Sleep? Nutrition? What are the feelings about exercise? Do we have an injury or illness that is weighing on us?
Social - Awareness of our desired level of social interaction, communication, support, and the way we deal with difficult relationships.
Environmental - What are our immediate surroundings like? How does the weather affect our mood? Is our clothing appropriate or comfortable? Do you have the right tools or technology for any given job?
So, for those of you who woke up like I did today, which influencer(s) do you think are affecting how you are showing up? I'm going to challenge you to MAKE a moment for yourself to think on these next questions to see what comes up for you.
🤔 What specifically caused the influencer(s) to take charge of your day? (Was it a thought? Something someone said? A fear that appeared?)
🤔 When have you been able to successfully navigate a challenge with this particular Influencer in the past?
🤔 What might you be able to apply from that prior success to this situation?
So often, self judgement and criticism are a part of what takes a difficult start of a day and makes it worse. Instead of just feeling rotten, you belittle yourself for not being able to "keep going" and "get past" what's bothering you, and your energy level goes further into the toilet. If you haven't heard it before, I hope this statement will help you out.
The opposite of judgement is curiosity.
If you can make the time to get curious about what is happening with you, and then apply some self compassion and forgiveness and acknowledge that you are not alone in being the only person out there feeling low today...you might find that you are able move the needle on your energy level just a bit.
Permission is granted to make time to just feel what you are feeling and take care of yourself. I promise that you are worth it.❤️
