Permission for Joy
To my fellow people pleasers... I hit a wall this weekend, and it made me want to put out a question to you all.
👉 How much do you struggle with allowing yourself time to be happy when everyone around you is going through hard times?
My guess is you find yourself offering your help, your shoulder to cry on, your time, and anything else you can think of to make a difference...to bring just a little light or relief.
I wanted to put a focus on this today because I think some of you may need to hear the following:
❤️ It is not only OK, but necessary to make time for yourself to be happy even if everyone around you is unable to do this for themselves. This is not a selfish act. It is self preservation.
❤️ When you are helping those you love in hard times, it is important to WANT TO be there for them. The moment you start SHOULD-ING yourself, you will be unable to help effectively and will begin the slippery slope to resentment and your own suffering.
So make the time each day to fill your cup, to put the oxygen mask on yourself before the person next to you so YOU can keep breathing and WANTING to help those you love. Otherwise you might start looking and feeling like my friend here below.
If you need help granting yourself permission to be happy, or brainstorming what you can do to reconnect with a little daily joy, please reach out. jennifer@dailychoices.life
